We Are Tea review & Competition

Published:

After a trip to Budapest in 2006, founders of We Are Tea Spence and Suze had the unfortunate experience of Suze being taken ill with Pneumonia. Seeking solace in the comfort of a tea shop, Suze drank her worries away with a drink of Moroccan Mint Tea. This sparked the idea for them to bring it to the masses back in the UK. They decided the best place to enjoy a hot cup of tea was at home, so they launched their tea available to buy online! In cafes that sell their tea they also stock their own cups which are fully recyclable, yes, even the lids too! 100% compostable take-away cups, how many companies can boast that? They also switched their packaging from tinned tea caddies to recycled cardboard and their tea bags from nylon to 100% biodegradable corn starch teabags. Everything about their company is environmentally friendly and I love the #guiltfreesipping!

There range of teas include Sencha green tea, English breakfast tea, Chamomile, Super Berry, Peppermint and Premium Earl Grey amongst others.

In 2007 their Moroccan mint tea won a Quality Food Award, they now have 55 awards and counting after winning Great Best Taste Award and best performance by a first time entry as well.

We were lucky enough to sample We Are Tea, Moroccan Mint loose leaf tea. One word. Wow.

Have you ever been to Morocco? I have been a few times as I feel it is such a charismatic country. The vibrance of the medina with the cacophony of the souks, the olfactory meze is unique and combined with the auditory infusion you are truly transported to a place normally conjured by dreams and fantasia-cal imagery. Finding a tea that can replicate this is the stuff of unicorns. So when I tried the Tea Are Tea Moroccan mint it literally transported me back to the shade of a tree in a Riad in Marrakech.

For the price this is one of the best quality tea’s I have ever tasted. Katie has never been a lover of peppermint but this tea made her think differently. The packaging is appealing and the tea bags have a silky feel to them. It is suggested that you leave it to steep for 1-2 minutes. We left ours for around 40 seconds as a test and we could tell the quality was amazing and the tea bag really needed very little time to get to work. We drank one cup hot and drank another cool/medium heat and we were so impressed by them both. It definitely encourages you to try the other flavours.

Prices range from £2.99, such as the Moroccan Mint to £6.99. In beautiful flavours, from simple green tea to berry infused.
