Gum-on look after your muscles!

Published:

Whatever level you train at and whatever sport you take part in, caring for your muscles, preventing injury or rehabilitating yourself effectively are all paramount for our activity levels to be maintained and our positive mood to be nurtured. There is nothing more mentally debilitating than being out of action due to a niggle or an injury.
I have a history of chronic pain as a result of a technical disability. I have spine and nerve damage which gives me an increased level of issues in my musculo-skeletal system. Combined with scar tissue from an abdominal spine operation and as a result of a double mastectomy as a result of breast cancer, there is little wonder I was elated when the lovely folk at Gum-on asked me to try two of their unique leading products. On top of that I could see potential application within my job role as a physical therapist.
In case you haven’t heard of this fantastic UK based company here is a little background information before we get into the nitty gritty of the products in action.
The company was founded in 2014 by Seda Selby who holds a medical degree and many years experience in the pharmaceutical and health supplement industries. Already I can feel that you are impressed with the pedigree that this company arises from.
“I have always been drawn towards the healing qualities of holistic therapies. Growing up in Armenia with a family embracing natural remedies, the effectiveness of many natural ingredients has never been in doubt!”
As most experimental products and theories begin within tests on willing friends and family the Gum-on product evolved from this same adventure. Their sporting related ailments as in muscle cramps and pain plus sensitive skin all lent themselves to founding the products of the Gum-on range. The natural products developed and are increasing in popularity especially considering that they are handmade, vegan friendly, not tested on animals, boasting a UK based production from naturally occurring ingredients. I even love the fact that the name is derived from the essential oil Myrrh from the first product to be produced. Myrrh is a gum harvested from a tree and is reported to have healing properties causing it to have been used by our ancestors for centuries. You are guaranteed the highet quality active body care range with each ingredient being of the highest quality serving a purpose with every inclusion. Nothing is added to create colour of fragrance.

We have had a relatively long and cold winter. Lets face it as I sit at my laptop writing this there is 2 inches of snow on the 2nd April 2018. I regularly train in my garage and I always work to my maximum unless I am post illness (which is ridiculously rare) or post op (which unfortunately is less rare). If I am feeling tight in my left leg which is most affected by my nerve damage, it is often difficult to warm it up ready for a training session especially in my calf muscle. I have used deep heat to try to help but I always feel that my skin seems to heat up but the underlying muscle remains untouched, plus the smell is almost acrid. Gum-on prep gel mildly warms your muscles and is easily absorbed within a few minutes. The gently aroma is not repulsive and you don’t feel greasy from the application.

The stressed muscle soother is a god send for me personally, although I think they need to produce a catering size tub for all my aches and pains plus a professional size for use on my patients. All the patients I tried this with that were attending my clinic with muscular issues, said they preferred this for the way it felt on their sking and the smell that was far less clinical in nature and consequently didn’t remind them of a hospital or sports changing room in the 80’s.
An Aloe vera based gel with a blend of essential oils can help to soothe tense and cramped muscles. You can easily use this during or post training. Also as a sports massage aid for any stressed muscles. If you have a massage booked in try taking your Gum-on with you for them to use instead of a standard oil.
The oils contained are as follows – Cypress oil included for its potential anti-spasmodic properties that may help with spasms, pulled muscles and cramps. Lavender oil, which as an individual scent gives me migraine, however, as a blend within this product I find it very pleasant and tolerable. It is reportedly very useful in combatting muscular aches and sprains. Majoram is also reported to have a beneficial effect on muscle aches and pains after sports, and it could also possibly help to ease joint problems. Rosemary can aid the circulation and provide relief for sports and exercise related injuries and pains.

I can report that there is a definite positive effect on the muscle especially when used in conjunction with massage techniques.
I would definitely be encouraged to try the rest of the range following my experiences with these two products. If you wish to try them for yourself or contact the geniuses behind the range visit www.gum-on.co.uk

PS if you’re reading this lovely folk at Gum-on I would love to try your face cream as I struggle in the cold with skin soreness after sweating during training. Wink Wink x
